MIAMI — The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Rachel is barely a tropical storm and is forecast to keep weakening over the Pacific off Mexico’s coast.
The storm’s maximum sustained winds early Tuesday have decreased to near 40 mph (65 kph) and Rachel is expected to become a remnant low later in the day.
Rachel is centered about 485 miles (780 kilometers) west of the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula and is stationary with a slow westward to west-southwestward motion expected over the next few days.
