The new hope of the Republican establishment Florida Sen. Marco Rubio has hopes of upsetting frontrunner Donald Trump in tomorrow’s Nevada GOP Presidential caucus. All polls show Trump having a big lead in Nevada but Rubio is hoping that he is able to change the game in a place he calls his second home.
Rubio is hoping that his well-oiled ground game can do for him in Nevada, what Texas Sen. Ted Cruz did to Trump in Iowa. A win that Rubio could use to launch him on to Super Tuesday March 1st when there are 15 primaries/caucuses up for grabs.
Rubio spent six years as a child in Las Vegas where his father was a bartender and his mother was a maid working on the famed “Strip.” He hopes to build on a group that includes, Mormon’s and Latino voters. Nevada Rep. Mark Amodei is backing Rubio for president and so is Nevada Sen. Dean Heller, who on Sunday threw his support behind the Florida senator.
Meanwhile, Rubio is looking for more money and hopes to grab some cash now that he seems to be the establishment’s main man. Now that former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is out of the race and that means many of these wealthy donors will likely gravitate toward Rubio, given his closer attachment to the establishment wing of the GOP.
But sources in the Bush donor network caution that some will stay on the sidelines, while others will be drawn to Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, either through Texas connections or because of an admiration of his ground game.
Ohio Gov. John Kasich appeals to many Bush supporters, but his fifth place finish in South Carolina with just 7.6 percent of the vote will not leave many with confidence he can defeat Donald Trump. So tomorrow’s storyline’s is can Marco Rubio beat the favorite Trump in a caucus state where the billionaire has his only loss. But can a win in Nevada help the Florida senator win some of those big March 1st Super Tuesday primaries and caucus states?
