There is good news for some Florida high school students looking for a way to pay for college.
Republican State Senator Bill Galvano has submitted a bill for consideration next session that could require the state to pay between 75 and 100 percent of college tuition for top high school graduates. The catch is that those who get the scholarships must attend an in-state college or university.
The bill is predicted to help nearly one hundred thousand young Floridians afford higher education. The move comes after lawmakers scaled back funding to Bright Futures, the state’s main scholarship program for high-performing students, during the Great Recession.
Some Bright Futures recipients are getting one hundred percent of their tuition paid, but only for one year.
