Two big political events take place on Saturday and they will be very important to the present frontrunners. The Democrats will be caucusing in Nevada while in South Carolina the GOP will be holding a primary.
All indications are that Donald Trump will add South Carolina to his win column along side last week’s New Hampshire victory. Meanwhile, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will likely have enough support to pull out another close win over Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in Nevada.
The race in South Carolina is just like it was in New Hampshire with five Republicans battling it out to see who comes in second to Trump. The field will be tight with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and even Ohio Gov. John Kasich all in the hunt for second place.
Throughout the week each candidate with the exception of Trump has seen their name in the second slot in one of the five polls done since last weekend. Dr. Ben Carson is the only candidate that at the moment seems to be on the outside looking in as the race for second is up for grabs.
What is likely is that Trump will win and everyone with the possible exception of Carson will roll on to the big showdown on March 1st and the big “SEC Primary,” will take place. If Trump can pull off another impressive win in South Carolina the conventional wisdom is that he will rack up a “YUGE,” deligate total on March 1st when over one quarter of the votes will be up for grabs.
On the Democratic side Clinton needs a win in Nevada this week and big win in South Carolina is stall Sanders momentum. Look for Nevada’s own, Sen. Harry Reid, a Clinton supporter to pull out all of the stops to win the caucus today.
Should Sanders be able to beat Clinton in Nevada then heading south he could be poised to over take for top spot on the Democratic ticket. The stakes on both sides could not be higher.
