Remember those three British schoolgirls who ran away from home in the hopes of joining the Islamic State? Turkey’s Foreign Minister said on Thursday that a foreign operative suspected in helping the girls flee to Syria has been detained. The suspect has been detained for over a week, but there were no further details provided. The Foreign Minister said he shared the information with his British counterpart.
There has been tension between Turkey and Britain over who was to blame for the teenagers … identified by British authorities as Shamima Begum, 15, Kadiza Sultana, 16, and Amira Abase, 15 … being able to sneak into Syria to join the extremist groups, with Turkey accusing Britain of failing to notify authorities in time to keep them from crossing the border.
