Tampa Wrong-Way Driver arrested
The Florida Highway Patrol has just released the toxicology reports from a Tampa wrong-way accident on I-275 from mid-August. The reports show that the driver, Edward Jose Duran, had a .21 BAC at the time of the fatal crash. They also indicate he was high on cocaine.
On August 15 at 2:44 a.m., the Florida Highway Patrol got a call about a wrong-way driver traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-4 near 50th Street. It was unknown where the wrong-way driver entered the interstate.
According to the report from the FHP, Duran was driving down I-4 and entered the northbound lanes of I-275. Once on I-275, he traveled northbound in the inside southbound lane.
An ambulance was traveling southbound on I-275 in the inside lane north of Floribraska Avenue. As a result, Duran collided head-on with the ambulance, which rotated counter-clockwise, overturned onto its driver side and came to final rest on the inside southbound shoulder of the roadway facing north.
Duran’s car came to final rest on the inside shoulder of southbound of the roadway facing north.
