The treasurer of the Freedom High School Booster Club is facing grand theft charges.
According to Tampa Police, Cornelius Smith was arrested on grand theft charges after he made over $15,000 in unauthorized withdraws over an eight day period.
The board of directors for the Booster Club did not approve of the withdraws and there were no Booster Club related purchases made with the money.
Most of the withdraws were from ATMs and photos and videos show the suspect making said withdraws.
Police say when the 40-year-old was confronted by the board members, he abruptly resigned as treasurer and didn’t cooperate with the investigation.
The Booster Club is a separate entity from the school and school employees don’t have control of the money.
