Spring Hill Standoff Ends Peacefully

A Tuesday morning standoff in Spring Hill ended with the arrest of Garry Edward Grim, 39. Deputies received information that Grim, who was wanted on a warrant for violating his conditional release from the Florida Department of Corrections, was located at 16844 Laura Lee Drive. About 8:40 a.m. when deputies attempted to arrest Grim, he began yelling he had weapons and hostages. Inside the home were his girlfriend and her two young daughters. They were not injured.

Because of those threats, a perimeter was set up around the home, neighbors were evacuated, local schools were notified, and members of the Pasco Sheriff’s Office SWAT unit responded to the scene. During the standoff, members of the SWAT unit entered the home without Grim knowing and evacuated his girlfriend and her two daughters. At 12:46 p.m., Grim, who barricaded himself in a back room, was taken into custody.

No shots were fired and no one was injured. Due to Grim taking various drugs during the standoff, he was taken to a local hospital to be medically cleared. In addition to violating the terms of his conditional release, Grim also faces false imprisonment and battery charges. This remains an active investigation and more charges could come at a future date. No further details are available.Grim had been released from the Department of Corrections on March 28, 2014 after serving nearly seven months for charges of possession of a controlled substance, grand theft and resisting an officer with violence.
