SARASOTA, Fla. – September 25, 2013 – 8 a.m.
The Sarasota Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that happened at about 1 a.m. Wednesday at the Marriott Residence Inn at 1040 University Parkway, Sarasota.
When officers responded, the clerk, a female, said she was doing her nightly paperwork in the sitting area of the hotel and the suspect walked in and displayed a handgun.
The suspect asked the clerk to give him money as he pointed a gun at her. The clerk told the suspect no and attempted to grab the gun.
The suspect pulled the gun back and struck the clerk in the left side of her head causing injuries. The clerk fell to the ground and told officers she was in fear of being killed so she went with him to the front desk.
The clerk unlocked the safe and gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect ordered the clerk to the ground face down and told her to stay there and not move.
The suspect is described as a male, in his 20s, Hispanic, 5’8″ – 5’10”, slender build. He was last seen wearing a black baseball type hat with a white letter, a gray bandana covering his face and a black long sleeved shirt with a possible gray design on it or just a gray undershirt, black shorts and shoes.
