According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, deputies are on scene at the Sirata Hotel, located at 5300 Gulf Boulevard in St. Pete Beach following reports that a man using a metal detector located an item that appears to be a grenade.

The man was about 20 feet from shore in the Gulf when he located the item and brought it on to shore.
As a result and in an abundance of caution, Pinellas County Deputies have cordoned off the beach area behind the Sirata and have contacted the Hillsborough County Bomb Squad, who is currently enroute to the scene.
No further information is available at this time.
