For those of you who think that Apple devices can’t get hacked, think again. They can get hacked, it’s just that no one has figured out how to hack them…until now.
The Daily Mail reports that Apple users in Australia are getting their devices hacked and are being forced to pay ransom to get them unlocked. These devices include iPads, iPhones and computers and have been targeted overnight in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.
The users woke up Tuesday morning to find a message on their device warning them they’ve been hacked by Oleg Pliss.
Melbourne iPad owner ‘veritylikestea’ posted to an Apple support forum that her iPad “suddenly locked itself” on Tuesday morning.
“There was a message on the screen … saying that my device(s) had been hacked by Oleg Pliss,” she told Australian Associated Press.
The message demanded she pay US$100 (AU$108.20) through PayPal for her device to be unlocked. Other users as well have woken up to noises and messages on their phones and report unhelpful service by Apple and other major telecommunication companies.
It’s unclear as to how these devices got hacked but some blame a breach of their iCloud accounts.
