Pinellas County buses may soon be allowed to legally drive on the Interstate 275 shoulder—but only under certain circumstances.
The Florida Transportation Department is studying whether 275 break-down lanes are wide enough to accommodate public buses.
Buses would be able to use the shoulder when overall traffic speeds drop below 35 miles an hour.
The idea is to make public transportation more efficient.
Public buses in Miami, Chicago, and Minneapolis already use highway shoulders when traffic bogs down.
