Personal financial website, WalletHub, has named Orlando the best city in the U.S. for video gamers.
According to WalletHub, the gaming industry has grown tremendously with nearly a billion players contributing to the $100 billion industry. In 2016 video games overtook movie-ticket sales around the world by about $62.5 billion.
While video gamers are protrayed as teenagers and kids, a recent study showed that half of the U.S. adults play video games and nearly two in three households have at least one gamer who plays video games on average three to four hours per week.
That came into play for WalletHub’s survery. The website’s data team compared the 100 largest U.S. cities across 20 key indicators of gamer characteristics. Each of the 20 key indicators were grouped into the following categories: 1) Gaming Environment, 2) Internet Quality & Coverage and 3) Gamer & Developer Opportunities.
Orlando ranked first in gaming environment, 53rd in internet quality & coverage, and second in gamer & developer opportunities.
Tampa was also ranked in the top 25 coming in as the 25th best city in the nation for gamers. Miami ranked 53rd, Jacksonville 64th, St. Petersburg 84th, and Hialeah 94th.
Seattle, Austin, New York, and Atlanta came in behind Orlando. San Bernardino, CA, Corpus Christi, TX, Memphis, TN, Laredo, TX, and Detroit, MI ranked at the bottom of the list.
