ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a sleeping 4-year-old boy was mauled by a pit bull in Florida.
Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Kenneth Taylor said in a news release that the child suffered lacerations to his forehead, nose, right cheek and behind the left ear in the late night attack on Tuesday. He says the injuries are significant, but not life-threatening.
Investigators say the child’s mother invited her boyfriend over on Tuesday night and he brought the dog. While the mother and her boyfriend were in the living room, the dog entered the child’s bedroom and bit him.
Taylor says the animal services agency has placed a 10-day quarantine on the dog, with an option for euthanasia with the owner’s consent.
Child-abuse detectives were also notified.
