ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A section of Interstate 4 in central Florida is a step closer to undergoing reconstruction.
State transportation officials announced last week that the Florida Department of Transportation has picked Mobility Partners as the company to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Interstate 4 project.
The $2.3 billion project will reconstruct 21 miles of Interstate 4 from near Universal Studios in Orange County to Longwood in Seminole County. The project, known as I-4 Ultimate, will add four express toll lanes while maintaining the existing lanes where motorists don’t have to pay.
The toll lanes will have variable tolls to adjust to traffic flow.
The Department of Transportation will retain the toll revenue and control toll rates.
Construction is to start next year and finish in 2021.
