FLORIDA PROSECUTORS WEIGH CHARGES FOR TEENS WHO MOCKED DROWNING MAN

Florida prosecutors will decide whether to file charges against five teenagers who laughed and recorded video as a disabled man drowned. Cocoa police have recommended filing a misdemeanor charge of failure to report a death since it’s not a crime to fail to rescue someone.

GOV. SCOTT WANTS HIGHWAY PATROL, STATE OFFICERS TO GET PAY RAISE

Florida Gov. Rick Scott wants the state’s highway patrol troopers, wildlife officers and law-enforcement agents to get another pay raise. This year legislators agreed to give the state’s nearly 4,000 sworn-law enforcement officers a 5 percent raise. Scott wants to set aside an additional $30 million in 2018.

MIAMI-DADE PROSECUTOR SAYS POLICE-INVOLVED SHOOTING PROBES TAKE TOO LONG

Having just closed the case on a police shooting that occurred more than eight years ago, Miami’s top prosecutor said her office takes “far too long” to investigate shootings involving police officers. Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said her office will post regular status updates on its website about shooting investigations involving law enforcement officers.

EX-FBI AGENT CONVICTED IN 1982 MOB SLAYING GETS 2039 RELEASE DATE

A disgraced former FBI agent serving time for a 1982 murder linked to imprisoned New England mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger has a new prison release date — if he lives that long. The Florida Commission on Offender Review on Wednesday set a June 22, 2039 release date for ex-agent John Connolly, who would be 98 by then.

WILDLIFE OFFICIALS ID MEN WHO DRAGGED SHARK IN ONLINE VIDEO

Florida wildlife officials say they’ve identified the men dragging a shark behind a speeding boat in a video that went viral on several social media sites. A Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman says the names won’t be released until an investigation is complete.
