A new mall in Sarasota is expected to open Thursday.
The Mall at University Town Center will open at 10 a.m. It’s the first mall to open in the area in 35 years. A few thousand people checked out the mall during a Sneak Peak Preview Charity event Wednesday night.
“We thought it’s the perfect place to open,” says Robert Taubman, UTC owner CEO, president and chairman of Taubman Centers, according to WTSP.
“It’s incredibly environmentally friendly and customer friendly,” says Taubman.
The mall features a ceiling that is 98% LED lights. The ceiling is glass and lets in light, but not heat.
“We think it’s the most technologically advanced center ever opened in the U.S,” Taubman says.
The mall also features Wi-Fi and phone charging stations, as well as car charging stations.
There is also a digital map. Just navigate the map like your smartphone and find your favorite store.
