FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — A former U.S. Postal Service worker in Florida has been sentenced to a year of house arrest and probation after admitting she took bribes to deliver packages containing marijuana.
A federal judge imposed the relatively lenient sentence on 54-year-old Evelyn Price after finding she had no prior criminal record, mentored children at local churches and did other good community works. Price had faced up to 18 months in prison.
The SunSentinel reports Price accepted about $500 in bribes from a man known as “Steve” after agreeing to provide addresses where the drug packages could be sent along her Boca Raton route. Price would then retrieve them and give them to “Steve.”
“Steve” was never arrested. When Price was caught last year, investigators seized packages containing about 20 pounds of marijuana.
