Broward Commuters Should Expect Delays Due To Road Construction

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla.- Broward commuters should expect to see some changes at both local roads and some the major thoroughfares in the county this week.

Per the Sun Sentinel, on the highways, construction will have the following impact:

•All southbound lanes of Interstate 75 between Pines Boulevard and Miramar Parkway will be closed from 11 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday. Motorists on I-75 will be detoured at exit 9A on Pines to go east to Flamingo Road, south on Flamingo to Miramar Parkway then west on Miramar Parkway to re-enter I-75 southbound.

•All lanes of northbound I-75 from Sheridan Street to Griffin Road will be closed from 11 p.m. Wednesday, to 5 a.m. Thursday. Motorists will be detoured at exit 11A at Sheridan to go east to Flamingo Road, north on Flamingo to Griffin Road and west on Griffin to re-enter I-75 northbound.

• On Intertstate 95, construction for two express toll lanes and other highway upgrades in both directions began overnight Sunday north of Broward Boulevard. Two to three lanes will be closed from about 10:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Sunday nights through Friday mornings, said project engineer Scott Case, but there will be construction during the day, too.

•Florida’s Turnpike is modifying the interchange at Sunrise Boulevard as well as implementing all-electronic tolling. Ongoing construction for the $50 million project, is expected to affect area traffic through late 2019.

On the local front:

•Downtown Fort Lauderdale commuters will get some relief with Monday’s 6 p.m. opening of West Broward Boulevard at the Florida East Coast railroad tracks. Construction of new tracks and pavement for the Brightline high-speed rail service has caused tie-ups since Wednesday.

•Tyler Street in Hollywood is scheduled to undergo the same road closure at the FEC railroad crossing on Tuesday, ending Aug. 23. Traffic will be rerouted north to Fillmore Street, officials said.

•Similar railroad crossing construction is planned later this month at Belvedere Road in West Palm Beach and Palmetto Park and Glades roads in Boca Raton.

All traffic information above came from the Sun Sentinel.
