The attorney who represented OJ Simpson in a trial stemming from a bizarre 2007 Las Vegas hotel room raid for which the former NFL Hall of Fame player was sentenced to prison will take the stand Friday to defend his handling of the case.
Yale Galanter’s advice to Simpson before the raid and decisions he made during the 2008 trial have been the focus of this week’s hearing in Las Vegas. The ex-USC Trojan wants a judge to throw out the robbery-kidnapping convictions on the claim that Galanter failed to disclose that he knew about the hotel room raid in advance, told Simpson it was legal and provided bad advice at trial.
Galanter will have the opportunity to defend his role Friday in what is expected to be the final day of testimony. It is not clear when the judge will issue a ruling, but the outcome is part of a process that will determine whether the 65-year-old Simpson spends the rest of his life in prison.
