TAMPA – Dozens and dozens of storage units were broken into in Hillsborough County, and one of the thieves, detectives say, was caught on tape.
“They are working very quickly. They have become very comfortable with the system. They have become comfortable with the locks and how to break them quickly,” observed Cristal Bermudez Nunez, spokesperson for the Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators say the two suspects have broken into 180 units in the last three weeks. Black and white images from a storage surveillance video give you a better look at one suspect’s face and two tattoos on his right arm.
Detectives say the burglars use a screwdriver to break the locks on the storage units, but often leave empty-handed.
“They may just be looking for something. Criminals have storage units, too. Maybe they’re looking for a grow house or a stash,” offered Nunez.
