WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Officials say a 3-year-old boy drowned in a backyard pool while his father slept inside their Florida home.
The Palm Beach Post reports that the drowning occurred Aug. 10 in Palm Beach County.
Florida Department of Children and Families records say the father was watching the boy that day while the child’s mother was at work. The father told investigators he fell asleep at some point, and the child was missing when he woke up. He searched the home unsuccessfully and then got a neighbor to help him. He eventually called law enforcement, who found the boy floating in the family’s pool.
The boy was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. It wasn’t known how he got out of the house.
No charges were immediately filed against the father.
