SPRINGFIELD, — Officials say a Panhandle family has received hundreds of threats after posting a Facebook photo showing a dog dangling by its haunches from a jump rope pulley system.
The News Herald says the photo shows two young girls in a vehicle. Next to them is a pulley, where a small, white, Jack Russell terrier type dog is hanging upside down by its legs.
Loretta Bozeman, the girls’ grandmother, was charged with cruelty to animals for posting the picture. Family members say the girls were re-enacting an animal rescue from a TV show.
Springfield Police Chief Philip Thorne says the family has received more than 500 death threats through social media.
The dog in the picture and another family dog were taken by animal control. A judge will determine whether the dogs should be returned.
