COAST GUARD COURT-MARTIAL OVER KEY WEST ASSAULT

A U.S. Coast Guard petty officer is facing a court-martial for allegedly assaulting a tourist couple outside a Key West bar last year. The court-martial begins Monday morning for 40-year-old Petty Officer Michael Gold for the November 2013 incident. Gold is charged with groping a woman and then assaulting her husband when confronted. Gold specifically faces charges of abusive sexual contact, assault and drunk and disorderly conduct.

FLORIDA’S VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS MONDAY

Florida’s voter registration deadline is here. Those wanting to vote in the November elections must register to vote by Monday. Floridians who register to vote after Monday will not be allowed to vote in the upcoming election. The Nov. 4 election includes the race for governor. Voters will also pick the three members of the state Cabinet and decide constitutional amendments dealing with the environment, medical marijuana and the state Supreme Court.

ATTORNEYS WANT TO RECREATE THEATERE SHOOTING SCENE

Attorneys for a retired police captain charged with shooting another man in a movie theater want to go inside the theater where the fatal shooting took place so they can reconstruct what happened as part of their defense. The Tampa Tribune reports a hearing is scheduled Wednesday for Curtis Reeves Jr.’s motion seeking permission to enter the theater to take photographs, shoot video, take measurements and view the lighting settings.

SARASOTA SCHOOL CAFETERIAS GOING MEATLESS

Sarasota County schools will observe Meatless Mondays in their cafeterias starting this week. Schools will serve only meat-free dishes in school cafeterias on Mondays. Students can choose from dishes including hummus and vegetable subs, veggie pasta bakes, spaghetti marinara and fiesta taco salads.

BOY KILLED, 2 INJURED WHEN TRUCK HITS GO-KART

A 10-year-old boy died when a pickup truck hit him as he pushed a go-kart that had run out of gas along a north Florida road. The Florida Highway Patrol says two other boys were injured in the Saturday evening crash near Crescent City in Putnam County. The Gainesville Sun reports the boys would push the go-kart off the road when cars approached. But they didn’t move quickly enough as Michael Rieble approached. He told troopers he didn’t see the boys.
