Deputies are on scene of a deputy-involved traffic crash that occurred at approximately 6:50 a.m Friday. The crash involves a Sheriff’s Office vehicle and a citizen vehicle. It happened on Morris Bridge Road, just east of Interstate 75 in Thonotosassa.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy has been transported to Tampa General Hospital to be checked out and the citizen was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital. HCSO hasn’t released their conditions.
Police say the westbound lanes of Morris Bridge Road just east of I-75 closed down but have since reopened.
According to HCSO, Shanika Davis, 34, was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of Morris Bridge Road to go eastbound. She was at the intersection involving the off ramp from northbound I-75. She was behind a tractor trailer that was also attempting to make a left turn. The tractor trailer stopped in the median forcing Davis to a stop in the westbound lanes.
Deputy Ladarian Rudolph, 29, a six year vet with the department, was traveling westbound on Morris Bridge Road in the inside lane and attempted to stop and struck the driver’s side of Davis’ 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe. The Tahoe rotated and rolled over onto the roof. Deputy Rudolph was taken to Tampa General hospital where he is in stable condition and Davis was taken to St. Joseph’s hospital where she is in stable condition. The crash is still under investigation.
