Red hot weekend set for the Tampa Bay area this weekend
Florida is known for its hot and muggy summer’s that are often cooled down by morning or afternoon showers. But the month of May is normally a time when temps touch the high 80’s or low 90’s. But this weekend it is going to be hotter than it has been in over a century.
It has hard to believe but there has never been a temperature of 100 degrees or more recorded at Tampa International Airport. That could change this weekend as the heatwave that has gripped the area continues at least until early next week.
According to the Weather Channel Friday, Saturday and Sunday temperatures will hit 96 plus degrees or more. It is likely that your car thermometers are likely to register in excess of 100 degrees.
This in the 20th time this year that temperatures are going to break record highs as Tampa Bay area residents try to cope with the heat. It is not easy to find a cool place that is not inside.
It is very important that people drink plenty of water, wear cool clothes and if possible stay in door’s. If you must be outside then drink a liter of water per hour, eat some salty snacks, that will keep you hydrated while at the same time replacing some of your bodies electrolytes.
The closer to Tampa Bay or the Gulf of Mexico, the cooler it will be which it is still going to be close to the 90’s. The more inland you are the warmer it will be so if you are on Clearwater Beach you will feel the Gulf breeze and the mid too high 80’s. But if you are Plant City, then you are going to be seeing that 100-degree mark.
The key is water and stay cool at least till Monday.
