The Freedom Caucus has become the latest target for Trump
President Donald Trump spent most of his time running for office by attacking his Republican challengers as well as the Party itself. So, when it came to his first legislative intuitive the repeal and repeal of Obamacare, the ultra-conservative Freedom Caucus dealt the new president his first defeat.
President Trump was being pulled much farther to the right than he was comfortable. So, now President Trump urging is urging his supporters oppose Freedom Caucus members when they are up for re-election next year.
The president took to Twitter to make his point perfectly clear that he is not pleased with the Freedom Caucus and other ultra-conservative groups. He wants people that shares his more populist vision and his goals.
The President initially blamed Democrats for the failure of his plan to repeal and replace Obamacare but has since refocused his attention toward the Freedom Caucus.
House Speaker Paul Ryan, the top Republican in Congress who wrote the bill, said that he fears divisions in the Republican Party are pushing the President to work with Democrats.
“I don’t want that to happen. You know why? I want a patient-centered system, I don’t want government running health care,” he said in an interview with CBS “This Morning.” “The government shouldn’t tell you what you must do with your life, with your health care. We should give people choices.”
White House officials declined to elaborate on the Trump tweet. Sarah Sanders, a spokeswoman, said, “”The tweet speaks for itself.”
Several Freedom Caucus members also declined to comment on Trump’s attack, but others defended the group’s decision to stand up for conservative principles.
