One of the great things about covering is the rumors because that just make life more fun. The latest rumor has Florida Democratic candidate, providing she wins the nomination would name former Republican Congressman David Jolly as her running mate.
Democratic candidate Gwen Graham is actually considering Republican David Jolly as a potential running mate in the Florida governor’s race. Jolly served as a member of Congress representing Florida’s 13th District – St. Petersburg and lost to Charlie Crist in 2016 in an attempt for re-election.
Since that time Jolly has become a very important voice on politics appearing on a number of outlets including MSNBC. He is an anti-Trump conservative following in the footsteps of Ronald Reagan and Jack Kemp.
Our friends at Politico was the first report that this could happen. Graham was a recent guest on the Miami podcast “Strange Days With Fernand Amandi.”
According to Politico Graham mentioned Jolly in her remarks on the podcast.
“I see my lieutenant governor selection as someone who’s going to be right by my side helping me get this state back on the right path,” Graham told Amandi. “Patrick Murphy would certainly fit that definition, as would David (Jolly), as would all the other candidates for governor on the Democratic ticket at the moment. So it’s really going to be, for me, a thorough analysis of who can bring the most to help make the biggest difference in the state of Florida.”
Floating the idea of having Jolly was a bright move by Graham because while Progressives may not like the idea of having a Republican as her Lieutenant Governor, but it might not be a bad one.
But first things first Graham needs to win the Democratic first before being concerned about a running mate.
Jolly does serve as a guest host from time to time on News Talk Florida WWBA AM 82O.
