Florida Gov. Rick Scott is rumored to be a possible member of a new Trump administration

Florida Gov. Rick Scott has been summed to Trump Tower in New York, today where he will meet with President elect Donald Trump. Gov. Scott has been rumored to be on the short list for a number of Trump administration cabinet openings.

Scott, the Republican governor said in a tweet that he is going to congratulate Trump on his win and offer to help him “reinvent” federal government.

Scott was an early backer of Trump and endorsed him shortly after Trump won the Florida primary in March. He was a vocal opening act at Trump rallies all around the state.

The spot Gov. Scott has been targeted for is likely to the new head of the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Scott was a former health care executive.

However, he resigned as chief executive of Columbia/HCA in 1997, amid a controversy over the company’s business and Medicare billing practices. He was succeeded by Thomas F. Frist Jr. Columbia/HCA ultimately admitted to fourteen felonies and agreed to pay the federal government over $600 million, which was the largest fraud settlement in US history.

It should be noted that Scott was not implicated and no charges were leveled against him personally. After leaving Columbia/HCA, Scott later became a successful venture capitalist.

Scott has said repeatedly he plans to remain as governor of Florida. But he didn’t totally rule out working in a Trump administration.

And on Tuesday in Orlando at the National Governors Meetings, Scott told reporters that he is considering running against U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2018. Being a senator seems to be something that Gov. Scott is interested in exploring.

Scott has to leave office in early 2019 due to term limits.
