Florida Electorate Votes Trump
Tallahassee, FL (Dec 19, 2016) – After a full-court press by Democrats to convince the Florida electorate not to vote for Donald J. Trump for president, the electors held fast and unanimously voted for the Republican candidate. Trump won the popular vote in Florida on November 8th. Since then, a movement has been underway by Democrats for electors to change their vote, thereby negating the will of the people of Florida. Electors have been bombarded with letters, e-mails, cards, and voice and text messages to change their vote.
Electoral votes are allocated among the states based on the 2010 Census. Every state is allocated a number of votes equal to the number of senators and representatives in its U.S. Congressional delegation, one vote for each U.S. Senator (2 per state) and one for each member of the U.S. House of Representatives. In Florida, this comes to a total of 29.
Nationally, there is a total of 538 electoral votes to be cast, with 270 representing the number of votes needed to elect. During the 2016 Presidential Election, the President-elect won 306 electoral votes, and Hilary Clinton won 232. In order to prevent him from winning the presidency, 33 electoral votes would have to be overturned. In Florida, this simply didn’t happen.
According to one of Florida’s electoral voters, Kathryn Gates-Skipper of Lake Wales, FL, the voting was unanimous with Trump winning the state 29-0. When added to the states voting thus far, Florida’s 29 votes currently brings Trump’s total to 173, versus 53 for Mrs. Clinton, and 1 for Sen. Sanders. Mr. Trump is expected to win the Electoral College vote later today.
If Florida is any indication of how the electorates will vote across the country, it doesn’t appear Mr. Trump has anything to worry about.
