MIAMI (AP) — Florida’s two senators and 27 of the state’s 28-member congressional delegation are urging the leaders of the House and Senate appropriations committees to provide more funding to aid recovery efforts after Hurricane Irma.
A letter signed by Democrat Bill Nelson and Republican Marco Rubio says that most of Florida was affected by the Category 4 storm that first hit Cudjoe Key in the Florida Keys on Sept. 10.
“Almost a month later, Floridians are still recovering, and much work remains to be done,” the letter states.
With three major hurricanes hitting the U.S. soil and Hurricane Nate bearing down on the Gulf Coast, the letter seeks to help agencies that are assisting in recovery efforts. The delegation wants to make sure “our states and territories have adequate resources to recover and rebuild.”
