Donald Trump Deserves A Chance To Lead

Time to give President Trump a chance to lead.

Donald Trump is the president elect of the United States and we need to accept it even if as in my case you didn’t vote for him. To give him a chance to lead, to challenge him when you disagree with his plans, but to do so with in calm tones.  The most important part of being a citizen of the United States is the peaceful transfer of power.

Early Wednesday morning I watched Trump acting presidential as he talked about a concession call he had just received from Hillary Clinton. He took a moment to praise and thanked her for her service.

Yesterday a couple of blocks from where Trump spoke just hours before it was Clinton standing center stage to concede. Clinton, said that she hoped Trump would be “a successful president for all Americans,” and that she respected and cherished the peaceful transition of power.

She told her supporters that they must accept that Trump would be president. “We owe him an open mind and a chance to lead,” she said. But she also acknowledged that the country was more divided than she had realized.

About two hours later in Washington D.C. President Barack Obama said that he and former President George W. Bush had major differences eight years ago, but they managed a successful transition. He said he expected to do the same with President Elect Trump, while acknowledging that they have their differences, and he invited the president-elect to come to the White House on Thursday.

President Obama reminded the country that we “are all on the same team” and characterized politics as an “intramural scrimmage.” He said that he was heartened by the conversation that he had with Trump at 3:30 a.m. and that he hoped Trump maintains that spirit.

Today, there will be a meeting of President Obama and his successor President Elect Trump. It will be where the two men will begin the process the peaceful transition of power.

All three players in this process, President Obama, President Elect Trump, and former Secretary of State Clinton all acted with class. This has been a nasty campaign, there are many unknowns, there is a great divide in this country.

We need to have a cooling down period, people are concerned about a Trump presidency, those who didn’t vote for him. He needs to reach out to everyone and to calm down, reach out and to bring the country together, but that is what leaders do.

We are all Americans and we need to work together, we need to drop the vitriol on both sides and understand that we are all citizens of the same country. In two months President Donald J. Trump, will be the leader of the free world and as Americans we need to give him a chance to lead.

Candidate Trump got to the White House by at times being brash, outrageous and at times offensive. President Trump, now represents all people of the United States he need to be a leader worth following, I for one is willing to give him a chance.
