Amy Schumer is ready to entertain you this weekend on streaming video
This weekend, that is going to be cold in the Northeast and with time on your hands it is good to know there are plenty of good streaming options. There are a few must see items on the books and there is plenty to like in the new offerings from the usual subjects. The big buzz is around Amy Schumer, and we will get there soon, but if your in the mood for other things to get you going this week there is plenty to see.
Acorn, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Go, Showtime Anytime, STARZ, and more offer plenty of great entertainment worthy of your weekend viewing.
I know that there are plenty Amy Schumer fans out there and her new comedy special just dropped on Netflix. It is called “The Leather Special.” I watched it an I will say if you are a Schumer fan, and I am then she does not disappoint.
Okay, I know that some of you are not too keen on her but rest assured that this weekend there is plenty of quality stuff worthy of your streaming time.
HBO Go has “Jerrod Carmichael: 8 for your laughing pleasure.” He is funny in a different way but certainly a must see if you like standup comedy.
Amazon Prime is dropping season two of their outstanding drama “Hand of God.” Outstanding performances by Ron Perlman as Judge Harris and the always sexy and devious Dana Delany as his wife. This is the final season of the show but the series will follow Harris as he faces the consequences for the crimes he committed in the first season. You must watch season one if you have not seen it or season two will make no sense. I saw season one and frankly I want to go back and watch season one again because it was so good.
Acorn offers one of the most entertaining and most durable mystery franchises in television history. Midsomer Murders Series 19, Part 1 (Exclusive U.S. Premiere) PBS fans have long been consumed by Midsomer Murders and now Acorn has the franchise. You can do 18 seasons of the show if you like and frankly it never gets old.
Our old friend Detective Chief Inspector John Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon) and new assistant DS Jamie Winter (Nick Hendrix) investigate the cozy villages of Midsomer’s it has the same type of format as the old CBS Murder She Wrote program where murder comes to a small town. But this has the British charm and lovely scenery make the show both entertaining and charming.
DS Ben Jones (Jason Hughes) returns in a guest appearance in Episode 3 as Barnaby and Winter investigate the death of a star cricketer. Also guest starring Neil Morrissey (Men Behaving Badly), Susan Hampshire (The First Churchills, Monarch of the Glen), Natasha Little (The Night Manager), and more.
Good news over at STARZ – You can now watch, “Annie Hall,” “About a Boy,” and the Bill Murray classic, “Groundhog Day.” Has joined the platform. Joining that trio of laugh out loud movies is Quentin Tarantino’s iconic crime thriller, “Reservoir Dogs” and new episodes of the adventure series “Black Sails.”
If you are a musical fan, then “Chicago,” is all the “razzle dazzle,” you need. I saw the play three times and the movie does a fine job of standing on its own as an outstanding musical.
Many people forget that “Chicago,” won The 2002 Best Picture Oscar and remains — thanks to Moonlight — the only musical to win the top prize at the Oscars in the last 48 years. It’s streaming on Netflix and Prime Video, and it retains the same glitzy verve that captivated Oscars voters in the first place. Catherine Zeta-Jones takes best-in-show honors (and won Best Supporting Actress in the bargain), but the whole movie wraps the audience up in its vision.
Lastly, in streaming news this week Showtime Anytime is green lighting another season of “Billions.” The network has renewed the Paul Giamatti-Damian Lewis Wall Street drama for a third season, Variety, was the first to report the pick up this week.
“Billions continues to be a show on the rise, growing not only in audience, but in critical buzz and cultural relevance,” said David Nevins, president and CEO of Showtime Networks Inc. “It offers a unique mix of pure entertainment with sly commentary on our current have/have-not economy. Season 2 is off to a tremendous start, and has only whetted our audience’s appetite for what will come in Season 3.”
