Lady Gaga’s Halftime Show Was Best Part Of Super Bowl 51 Until Fourth Quarter Came Around

Who can jump from a stadium roof, drop the mic and say hello to mom and dad all during a Super Bowl halftime performance? Lady Gaga.

The pop singer set aside politics for the night and opened the Pepsi Halftime show with God Bless America before ultimately jumping from the roof of the NRG Stadium in Houston into what would become one of the best halftime performances in the history of the Super Bowl.

Her jump nearly broke the internet, especially on Twitter. Between 8:10 and 8:30 p.m. ET, there were 2.2 million tweets about Gaga’s performance, while the show was live. 10 minutes following the show there were 5.1 million tweets. All while Gaga’s @LadyGaga Twitter handle was mentioned 2.1 million times between 7:50 and 8:40 p.m. ET.

Watch out Beyonce and Prince, Lady Gaga put in work to have one of the most memorable performances ever at a Super Bowl. After performing her patriotic tunes, the 30-year-old had a set that included some of her most popular songs.

“Bad Romance” was the most-tweeted-about song in her set, followed by “Telephone” then “Born This Way.”

At a time when Americans find themselves in a brawl about current politics, Lady Gaga had one of the most uncontroversial performances. Remember last year Beyonce’s Black Panther performance referencing the Black Lives Matter movement? Many wondered if Gaga, who is an advocate for LGBT and women’s rights, would use this national platform to voice her dislike for President Trump.

Instead she set all likes and dislikes aside and used the halftime show to simply entertain and tried to bring America back together again with her opening with God Bless America, parts of the American Pledge of Allegiance and This Land Is Your Land.

Gaga also used this opportunity to highlight her new song “Million Reasons,” which saw sky rocketing sales after the standout performance.

New songs, old songs and patriotic songs, Gaga did it all. In fact she even became the star of countless memes and GIFs that many anxiously awaited after seeing her performance.
